A storied community

In 1894, the Everett Women’s Book Club met for the first time, with a goal to help educate and “expand the minds” of the people of Everett who were suffering from the impacts of the Depression. These women gathered and distributed books, acting as an unofficial library until they moved into City Hall, and in 1934, into what is now Library Place’s neighbor, the Everett Public Library.

Inspired by this beloved Everett destination, the Skotdal team set out to design and build a storied community that would not only provide a new level of living to downtown residents, but that would also honor the history and daily importance of the library.

While many developments built in 2010 focused only on small units for young professionals, this 200-residence mixed-use development offers a broad mix of unit types, from spacious 2-story lofts to family-sized two-bedroom, two-bath homes. Lobby artwork tells the story of the Women’s Book Club and the library’s past, while signage and unit IDs crafted out of card catalogue cards speak to the library experience. The Ogden Reading Room, honoring Charles Ogden, an architect who worked with Skotdal Real Estate, offers a space for residents to read, relax, host events and connect with neighbors. An outdoor courtyard centers around a fire element and is a popular destination on a summer day.

Library Place does its part to add to downtown discoverable art as well. A “stack of the classics” art piece sits at the sidewalk edge, cleverly hiding a utility company equipment.
